Nestled in the bucolic valley where Tumbling Shoals Creek meanders beneath the shadow of Bullhead Mountain in beautiful Wilkes County, Tumbling Shoals Farm is owned and operated by Shiloh Avery and Jason Roehrig. We grow certified organic vegetables and fruit. We have been farming since returning from Peace Corps service as agriculture volunteers in Madagascar in 2002. We began as partners at Gardens of Paradise in Pittsboro, NC, while Shiloh took sustainable agriculture courses at Central Carolina Community College and Jason began working with conventional farmers at RAFI-USA. In 2003, Melvin Whitfield invited us to farm an idle piece of land beside the horse pasture and the pond at his third generation farm in White Cross, NC. After a couple of years here, we began to pine for Appalachia and a place to put down roots. After three years of a rollercoaster ride of a land search we found this beautiful piece of land here in Millers Creek. Now we have put down roots, literally and figuratively. Tumbling Shoals Farm has become our home and our way of life.
